You can expect to experience the following benefits from continuous use of Proma DT5 Plus Diesel Treatment:
Surfactant
This ingredient is capable of breaking the surface tension of water to approximately one micron in size, and to encapsulate each particle in Stoddard solvent. This coating prevents contact with metal surfaces, and helps prevent the formation of corrosion in delicate fuel system components.
The fuel tank heats up as engine, transmission and differential heat passes around the tank with vehicle movement. The heat from return fuel exacerbates the problem.
Condensation occurs in the fuel tank, when a change of even a few degrees celsius in temperature occurs, and this condensed water can cause corrosion, and/or fuel system blockages.
Micro-organisms can multiply rapidly, causing serious fuel blockages and contamination.
Continuous use of DT5 can control water in the fuel system up to six times its own volume, and eliminate it through the combustion process as steam.
Detergent
The detergent action of this ingredient in DT5 has the capacity to clean the entire fuel system, combustion chamber/s and exhaust system. As hot fuel evaporates, it leaves behind deposits of olefins, gums, carbon deposits and sludge. All of these contaminants accumulate, and reduce the free flow of fuel and exhaust gases, with a detrimental effect on efficiency, heat transfer and performance.
When DT5 is used continuously, it slowly removes these contaminants. The combustible components are consumed in the combustion chambers and are expelled through the exhaust.
If these are removed too rapidly by overdosing, fuel filter blockages may occur, and combustion chamber deposits can build up on the spark plugs causing misfiring. If this occurs it may affect the noble metals in the catalytic converter (if fitted).
Many new vehicles now incorporate the fuel filter in the electric fuel pump. These components can be very expensive to replace. For your own information, ask the cost to replace the fuel filter on current fuel injected vehicles from your local mechanic.
Continuous use of DT5 can keep your fuel, combustion and exhaust systems clean.
Top Oil
PT5 Petrol Treatment contains Poly Butane Ashless Lubricant designed to lubricate fuel system, valve and cylinder components. As its name states, it burns without leaving an abrasive ash, which could cause wear. Whilst this ingredient is in very minute proportions it lubricates delicate carburettor and fuel injection components.
The Top Oil helps with valve lubrication, but it does not fully replace the lubricating and anti-knock qualities of the tetra-ethyl lead, to allow engines designed to operate on leaded fuel, to operate safely on unleaded fuel.
It does leave a protective coating on the rings, pistons and cylinder walls during shut-down, and helps provide additional lubrication prior to, and during start-up; as it enters the engine with the fuel, and coats the above components.
It can also be beneficial when added to the fuel tank in dial fuelled engines if the engine is operated for the first few and last few kilometres of a days’ operation.
Continuous use of PT5 assists lubrication prior to, during and after engine use.
Poly Butane Ashless Lubricant
Recent changes in Government Legislation have required a reduction in the sulphur content in diesel fuel. This has resulted in increased fuel pump and injector wear, as the sulphur provided some lubrication. DT5 Diesel Treatment contains a Poly Butane Ashless Lubricant designed to help lubricate fuel pump, injectors, valve and cylinder components. As its name states, it burns without leaving any abrasive ash, which could cause wear.
It does leave a protective coating on the rings, pistons and cylinder walls during shut-down, and helps provide additional lubrication prior to, and during start-up; as it enters the engine with fuel, and coats the above components.
Continuous use of DT5 assists lubrication prior to, during and after engine use.</em>
Combustion Modifier
The Combustion Modifier smooths the combustion process, and slows it slightly to help control the flame travel throughout the combustion chamber and throughout the expansion stroke.
The end result is more complete combustion of the fuel, resulting in increased horsepower, improved fuel economy, and reduced exhaust emissions. The reduction in the carbon monoxide and the unburnt hydrocarbon readings is very significant.
When calculating fuel consumption, it is important firstly to allow the product time to perform its many benefits. As the PT5 removes many of the contaminants from the fuel system, these may have a damping effect on the combustion process, until they are cleaned from the system.
Fuel consumption calculations are affected by different batches of fuel, weather and operating conditions, variations in fuel quality and the Oil Company seasonal changes in the fuel blend.
Cold Flow Improver
In cold weather, the wax in the fuel can crystallise, and block fuel filters. The Cold Flow Improver in DT5 can reduce the temperature at which this occurs by up to 7 degrees celsius, depending on the quantity of kerosene in the fuel blend. Also, with low sulphur fuel, there is a tendency for fuel to stratify, or settle into layers. DT5 assists in this regard.
DT5 Diesel Treatment lowers the flash point of the fuel, assisting in easier starting, particularly with indirect combustion injection systems. In many situations, you may not need to use the glow plugs (where fitted) to be able to start the engine.
